A Journey of Murals
With the teenagers from our art class, we set out to colour our environment into a living artwork. One stroke at a time, grey walls burst into vibrant colour—each mural a moment of pride for every child involved.
What began inside our art room soon spilled into the village. The energy was contagious. Brushes in hand, we transformed the exteriors of the children’s homes, turning them into bright, joyful landmarks across Riebeek West.
Artists Emma Willemse, Barbara Cilliers, Dieter Wüst and Jorge Mañes Rubio joined our young creators, adding inspiration and mentorship to the process. Together, we crowned the project with a giant mural at the entrance of the village—a beacon of pride, meaning, and community spirit.
Where we started
The journey began at the doorsteps of RASA’s children. Guided by imagination, each student designed their own image and tested it on their aprons — their first creative canvas. From those designs, we crafted stencils and painted our very first mural on the classroom wall. In collaboration with local artists from the Riebeek Valley, the children then conceptualised and brought to life vibrant murals on their own homes — transforming their surroundings into living works of art.
