Journey of Murals

The Journey of Murals is a collaborative process in the rural community of Riebeek West by the Rasa children and artists from the valley — to inspire our community and bring joy through art.

By transforming the exteriors of homes and buildings with vibrant murals we aim to foster collaboration, enhance the urban fabric, inspire pride and uplift community spirit. We dream that this will become a beautiful open air exhibition, drawing positive attention to our local community, and stimulate tourism.

The project involves the youth of the RASA art classes, local artists Emma Willemse, Barbara Cilliers, Dieter Wust, and Adrienne Sparks. Together with the children we’re creating visual dynamic imagery that celebrate theme of connection.

The journey began at the doorsteps of RASA’s children. Guided by imagination, each student designed their own image and tested it on their aprons — their first creative canvas. From those designs, we crafted stencils and painted our very first mural on the classroom wall. In collaboration with local artists from the Riebeek Valley, the children then conceptualised and brought to life vibrant murals on their own homes — transforming their surroundings into living works of art.

Nearly seven homes now stand transformed with colour and creativity, each one a reflection of the children’s imagination. The joy and pride shared by their families — and the wider community — have shown us just how deeply art can connect and uplift.
Our next step is our most ambitious yet: a large mural at the entrance to the valley. We invite you to come see the transformation in person!
With heartfelt thanks to our sponsor Maracor.
